In Tips from Experienced Technicians

A toaster oven is, as the name suggests, basically a cross between a toaster and an oven. Although used mainly to warm food, a toaster oven can be used like a regular oven. Because it has two heating elements, one on top and one on bottom, it has three basic function settings: bake, toast and broil.

So it goes from toasting bread to grilling pizza, or even roasting chicken, the toaster oven requires a little bit of your time to keep it clean, safe, and functional. Here’s how to get it clean again after a few rounds of too many toasts and crumbs (which, if left unattended for too long, are a fire hazard). Follow these 5 easy steps back into a safe and gleaming oven.

Steps:

1.Crumbs first

Start by unplugging the toaster oven, wait until it’s cool to clean it. Then, simply shake any crumbs or other food particles into the trash.

2. Tackle the removable parts.

Next, remove the rack and pans, and spray them and the crumb tray with an all-purpose cleaner. Use a non-abrasive scrubbing sponge to take off any food that is stuck on. Rinse, and let air dry.

3. Wipe away oven grease.

To tackle the oven itself, spray a sponge with more cleaner. Avoid spraying directly as you can get some of the product on the heating elements inside.

4. Looking after aesthetics.

Clean the window of your oven with a soapy steel-wool pad. You may want to shine it with window cleaner or with a vinegar and water solution. Wipe the exterior well, you may want to consider using a natural cleaner.

5. Allow to dry completely.

Be sure the oven’s dry (wait about five minutes), before plugging it back in.

All done!  Now you know how to clean your toaster oven.

Happy toasting!
