Kitchen Sink & Garbage Disposal Unit Cleaning Guide

Although water is always running down the sink, it’s not as clean as you may think. In fact, you need to do a little bit more to keep it clean and free of odors. This is a critical step for kitchen cleaning.

  • Toothbrush or cleaning brush

Cleaning the Sink

For daily cleaning, a cloth or sponge with some soap can be used to wipe down the sink. If necessary, glass cleaner or an all-purpose cleaning agent can be used.

However, you should always avoid using ammonia, bleach or any other abrasive cleaning agent on stainless steel. Steel wool and abrasive sponges should also be avoided as they can scratch the surface of the sink.

Pour Vinegar

After cleaning, you should always rinse the sink completely to avoid getting any soap or cleaners on your food.

To bring out the shine on your sink, sprinkle a little bit of baking soda and rub it into a paste across the surface. Rinse completely after.

Another method of cleaning is to line the sink with paper towels that have been soaked in vinegar. Let them sit for 20 minutes and then remove and dispose of the paper towels.

Rinse with hot water and soap.

Cleaning the Garbage Disposal Unit

Mix 1/2 cup of baking soda with 1 cup of white vinegar. Pour the solution down the disposal. Let it sit for a few minutes and then pour boiling water down the drain to rinse it.

Another technique is to fill the drain with ice cubes. Next, pour salt over the ice. Then run cold water
