Two main types of stoves—gas and electric
Each type has its pros and cons. Studies have shown that stove preferences depend mainly on which type you grew up with. If you learned to cook using a gas stove, the chances are that you’ll stay cooking with it.
People who prefer gas
- Direct control is an advantage of a gas stove. We do not need to wait for it to heat up because we use the flame to regulate the temperature.
- You can use your choice of any utensils/pans, iron, ceramic or stainless steel.
- Prosperous chefs may prefer the versatility and accuracy provided by the flame heating of gas stoves.
- It is preferred by professionals or by lovers of traditional cuisine.
- Though propane, butane, or even liquefied petroleum gas can be used to power a stove, most gas stoves run on natural gas and require a gas line to the house.
People who prefer electric
- In more remote areas gas lines are not available. But no matter where you live, chances are there is electricity. As long as your home has power, you can operate an electric stove. It merely needs to be plugged in.
- Parents with young children may switch to an electric stove, seeing it as the safer of the two.
- Families also appreciate the easy-clean virtues of electric stoves.
- Although they are a little more expensive, their installation is simpler.
