Caution with the materials you use in the microwave!
There are wonderful things that the microwave can do: cook a potato in a few minutes, make popcorn without using a pan, or prepare small portions of cake in breakfast cups when you do not have time to prepare a large one in the oven. But guys, be careful, the microwave cannot do everything. There are some products that literally go ‘crazy’ in contact with the waves.
Here you have a list of prohibited items that you should not put in the microwave. Trust your microwave and avoid an explosion.
Aluminum Foil
Never cover a dish with aluminum foil if you are going to heat food in the microwave.
Lunch bags
They are not as innocent as they seem. Whether made of paper or plastic, keep them out of the microwave. They are not healthy, they can cause a fire and emit toxic gases. The intense heat can cause the ignition of a bag or a fire in the oven.
Containers of yogurts
The used containers of yogurts, margarine or creams should never be used in the microwave. They are designed for a single use and can not withstand high temperatures. They could deform or melt with heat and even contaminate food with chemicals from the package itself.
Polystyrene foam containers
Many of you may have heard this before, but for those of you who continue to reheat your takeaway in the microwave, keep the following in mind: polystyrene is a type of plastic. And plastic does not go well with the microwave unless it is indicated in the container.
Tuppers
Most are made of plastic and we already know what happens to this material when we put it in the microwave. There are some plastic containers that are specific to the microwave. Make sure you check.
Thermos
Many are not reliable in the microwave. If they are made of stainless steel, do not heat them. The steel will block the heat and prevent the coffee or tea from heating up and the appliance will be damaged. If the thermos is made of plastic, check that the base indicates that it is microwave proof.
