You would think that after all that soap and water used to get your dishes squeaky clean, the sink would eternally remain spotless, yet that is not so. Just like the dishwasher, over time sinks will build food deposits, stains, rust and water stains. Here are some tips for you to clean the sinks around your home.
1.Scrub
This is probably the most basic and obvious one. After each daily use, you can quickly squirt some liquid soap into your basin while filling it a little bit with some lukewarm water, then scrub gently with the mixture. If you desire to give your sink a thorough cleanse, maybe after having made a big meal like Thanksgiving, you can use a nonabrasive cleanser or multipurpose cleaning detergent to remove all the grease left over from the pots and pans.
2. Remove stains
If over time your sink has built up stains, you may want to try making a homemade remedy for stained sinks. To erase the spots, just go ahead and make a paste using half a cup of powdered borax and another half of lemon juice. Using an old sponge, dab it into the paste and scrub the sink then rinse with plenty of running water.
If your sink has limescale, which is hard water stains that appear as chalky white mineral deposits, you can use a pantry ingredient — vinegar. Go ahead and soak a paper towel in the vinegar and cover the spotted area with it. Let it rest for 10 minutes then scrub the area with a dry paper towel.
3. Unclog your drain
A clogged drain happens very often around the Holidays, with all the grease and food that gets caught inside the sink drain. If this should occur at your home, try making a mixture of 1 cup of baking soda, 1 cup of salt and 1/4 cup of tartar cream. Use half this mixture to pour down your drain, then follow it by boiling water. You can also use this mixture in other drains in the house that may be cloged.
