What to avoid when using the vacuum cleaner
A vacuum cleaner is probably the most versatile tool in our cleaning arsenal and one of the most useful. However, not everything can be absorbed without causing damage.
Whether it’s your first vacuum, or you’re used to using it but you’ve never encountered certain situations, avoid using your vacuum cleaner to pick up these items found on the floor.
- Ash from the fireplace
The problem with the ashes from the chimney is that not only do they trap the heat, but also fine particles, so they cannot be vacuumed with a common vacuum cleaner. As a general rule, let the ashes cool down for at least four days, and then use a special vacuum cleaner (one with no bag) to clean the area, or just sweep with a broom and dustpan. - Pieces of glass
Large pieces of broken glass are dangerous to your vacuum cleaner. They could puncture the bag, embed themselves in the hose or scratch the interior, so it is better to use a traditional broom. - Anything wet
The common vacuum cleaner is not designed to pick up anything wet or liquid, whether soggy cereal, wet pet food, or even a spill. It is wiser to use a paper towel instead. - Coins, clips or other small objects
It is tempting to simply vacuum these small objects when you see them lying around. The problem is that they can get caught in the rotating brush or can break the plastic parts inside the appliance. If you avoid vacuuming certain things, you will prolong the life of the vacuum saving time and money by sending it to the technician for repair. You now have an idea of what not to do with your vacuum cleaner, prolonging the quality and efficiency of its use.
