Avoid damages to the garbage disposal
A food or garbage disposal is a great solution to prevent the kitchen waste bin from filling up with waste that can generate bad odors. They are usually located under the sink and are responsible for shredding food waste so that they can move through the pipeline.
However, sometimes it gets stuck and causes certain problems when using the sink. If hard or very large pieces are placed in the disposer, it could jam and clog the dishwasher drain system.
Make it easier for the food disposal
- Do not introduce very hard foods: Normally, in the manual for the device, you are given a list of things that you should avoid. Small, hard waste can get stuck and damage the rotation of the disposer. Not only bones and grains are prohibited, but also some parts of vegetables whose fibers are strong to break down (especially if they are raw).
- Cut large items: With this, you will facilitate the work of the shredder and its small pieces will thank you. If you have something very big to put in there, you should cut it first into small pieces and go through them one by one, not all at once.
- Open the tap while the shredder is working. After the debris has gone through the pipe, you must leave both the water jet and the shredder turned on for at least 40 seconds. In addition to helping the waste down the pipe faster, it makes the water cool the assembly of the appliance and prevent it from overheating.
- You should not use hot water as this could melt the fat present in certain foods which would cause a block in the pipe when it becomes solid again.
