Prolong the Life Of Your Oven!
Oven ranges can last a long time, but they can last even longer if they are properly maintained. Here are a few tips to avoid expensive stove repairs.
Operational Tips for Your Oven
Never Use Your Oven To Heat Your Home
An oven is not a replacement for a furnace and it will not be able to heat your home properly. Trying to do so will put the oven components under a lot of stress and can easily cause premature failure. Oven heat does not circulate properly and using a gas stove could cause a lethal dose of carbon monoxide to be released into your home.
Never Get Dials or Switches Wet
If your oven range has dials or switches, then you want to make sure that you never get them wet. This can easily short out the electrical components and render the controls useless. Some modern stoves have digital controls that can be wiped with water as part of a cleaning routine.
Prevent Moisture on Oven Door
If you see moisture on your oven door, then this probably means you have a malfunctioning gasket. The gasket is used to regulate the heat of the oven. If it is unable to do this it may have a bad seal.
Avoid Aluminum Foil
Try to avoid using aluminum foil as much as possible. It is an extremely reflective material and could cast too much heat at the temperature sensor. This could cause it to malfunction or provide inaccurate readings when you are cooking. In addition, using foil to line the bottom of the oven can be a fire hazard if the aluminum foil melts from high heat.
