Preserving Meat
Fresh meat is one of the products we pay more attention to when we keep it in our fridge or freezer. That is because being a protein-rich food with high water content is susceptible to being contaminated by bacteria such as salmonella or E-coli. Also, it is necessary to know how to identify the condition of the meat, to avoid possible poisoning. It is essential to take specific safety measures so that the meat maintains its properties, keeping it in perfect condition.
How to keep meat in the fridge?
- First, it is necessary that when buying meat we make sure that it is entirely fresh. Look at its appearance, as well as the dates of packaging and expiration of those that are already packaged.
- You can keep the meat in the fridge, without cooking it, for about 2 or 3 days maximum. It is also important to keep in mind that it will depend on the type of meat bought since some last longer than others.
- It should be noted that minced meat must be consumed within a few hours of being processed, as it is more likely to be attacked by bacteria. It is recommended to grind the meat at the time of consuming or buying it, that is, not choosing meat that has been ground beforehand.
- When preserving the meat in the refrigerator, it is necessary to remove the juices that it may have, since it is a source of bacteria proliferation.
- It is also recommended to keep it in very clean and hermetically sealed containers, so if it has been sold wrapped in paper or plastic, remove it. In the case of purchased meat already packaged in a tray, it will not be necessary to remove it, since this meat is protected, that is, the air inside has been treated to avoid bacteria.
