If  you detect foul-smelling odors every time you open your washing machine door and not the fresh scent of just-washed clothes, you aren’t alone. Many people find that their washing machine stinks, which means the clothes they wash in them stink too.

Why Do Washing Machines Stink?

Washing machine odors indicate that your appliance needs a good cleaning. These odors are commonly caused by contaminants such as bacteria, mildew, and mold. Over time, hair, body oil, soap scum, dirt, get trapped within the washing machine’s dispenses, seals, and gaskets. Without regular and proper cleaning, the washer ends up with a sink.

Removing smells that come from your washing machine can be challenging of you omit to clean the washer regularly. The combination of mold, mildew, and bacteria combine with the constant humidity in the laundry room, and the smell lingers on.

Tips to Remove Smells from Your Washing Machine

which washing machine is the best?
Proper maintenance is vital to keep your washing machine stink free.
  • Leave the washer’s lid or door a little open when not in operation. This will stop the buildup of mold in the machine.
  • Soak up water that accumulates at the bottom of the door’s seal, resulting in the rubber’s deterioration.
  • If the musty mildew odor is from a front loader, use full-strength Clorox at points where you can see the mildew buildup. Run the washer using at least two cups of the Clorox and set it on the soak cycle before you begin washing. Once the cycle is complete, leave the door open as that will help to dry out the interior of the washing machine.
  • Pour in some bleach into the powder draw and then run the machine on its 60-wash cycle- that should help remove smells from the appliance.
  • Add a few sterilizing tablets in the machine run a hot wash cycle. After the cycle is done, leave the machine’s door open overnight.
  • Place some Clorox or Tide in the washing powder tray and run the machine on the longest cycle. This helps to clean away the washing machine odors from the stale water trapped in the hoses.
  • Add 1/2 cup baking soda to two cups of white distilled vinegar. Start a wash cycle using the hottest setting. Once the water rises, add this mixture. Lastly, run a cold water cycle to finish the process.
  • When you are using commercial washing machine cleaning products, always opt for reliable and proven brands such as Clorox. Lysol, Tide, etc.
