Frequent appliance mistakes and problems
Most home appliances are built to stand up to years of use, wear, and tear. However, if you pay extra attention, there are things you can do to prevent unnecessary damages. Let’s take a look at some issues that may affect your appliances time to time.
Lightning and power surge damage
We highly recommend installing power surge protection in your whole house to avoid problems like ruined temperature controls, motherboards, and outlets. Lightning and other power surges can cause energy overload on most of your appliances.
Dishwasher issues
Wrong soap: Symptom: Bubbles, bubbles, and more bubbles! You should only use soap specifically made for your machine. Regular dish soap does not belong in the dishwasher!
Refrigerator & freezer issues
Not cleaning the refrigerator’s condenser: When your condenser gets clogged, your refrigerator will have to work harder, using more electricity and eventually overloading the fridge. We advise cleaning your condenser about every six months.
Not replacing water filters: Symptom: Clogs, leaks, and poor quality water. There are certain parts to every water filetr system that need to be regularly replaced for them to work properly. Water filters avoid mineral buildup in your water.
Washer & dryer problems
Metallic items: Open zippers can catch on your washing machine drum, causing scratches and even potentially causing glass panels to crack or explode. So pull all zipper tabs all the way to the top of the cloth before starting your load. Coins in your pockets are very common troublemakers. Just like zippers and hooks, coins can severely damage your washer or dryer. Check pants and jacket pockets before putting clothes in the machine.
Garbage Disposal problems
Throwing rough items: Symptom: Chopping efficiency decreased. Do not throw things such as bones, coffee grinds, celery, shells, grease or oil that can lead to unwanted damage or even jams, leaving your system beyond repair. And, don’t forget to clean it, following manufacturer instructions.
Vacuum Cleaner issues
Letting the bag get too full: Symptom: Your vacuum will strain to pick up debris from the floor. Unfortunately, all that strain can damage your vacuum . Clean the bag before each use and depending on the size, keep an eye on how full it gets while you’re using it.
