How to remove rust from a microwave oven
The rust inside a microwave oven is a sign of wearing out. If left unfixed, the metal under the rust can be exposed creating sparks or arching.
If you have noticed signs of rust in the microwave oven, the first step should be to determine if the rust is a consequence of exposed metal becoming wet and eroding. If so, the microwave must be replaced because the metal can cause fires. However, it is usually the case that rust in a microwave oven is a symptom of the condensation of hard water in the appliance, and rust is just a stain on the iron in the water. It must be removed, but it is not a serious threat to your safety.
Instructions to remove stains:
Clean the microwave oven. In many cases, what appears to be rust is actually cooked-in food.
1) Place 1/2 cup of white vinegar and 1/2 cup of water to boil in the microwave for one minute, then clean the interior. The vapors of the combination will reduce the buildup and dirt on the sides of the microwave oven so that it can be cleaned.
2) Rub the stain with baking soda and salt. Both elements are soft abrasives and will make a paste when moistened with a wet wash sponge. They must eliminate the resistant waste of hard water. If they do not, leave the paste on the stain for about 15 minutes, then rub it.
3) Bleach stain: Saturate a cleaning cloth with bleach. Be careful not to get it on your clothes. Place it on the stain for 15 minutes, then rub the stain and bleach away using more of your baking soda paste and salt.
4) Wipe the entire microwave with a damp cloth. This will get rid of anything.
