Practices to lower electricity consumption
One of the things in our budget that we can manage more efficiently with simple methods at home is the electric bill.
Take a look at some of these practices:
- Disconnect the television and computer, do not leave them in the standby position, this consumes between 14 to 18% more energy. Once the cell phone is charged, disconnect the charger, this saves 20% of the consumption. Likewise, the printer should be disconnected when not being used, this will save 12% of the printers consumption.
- Clean the back of the refrigerator at least once a year and thaw the freezer when it has a layer of 0-10 inches ice, saving 25% in consumption.
- Changing incandescent light bulbs with low consumption bulbs will save us around 25%.
- Lower the heating one degree. A temperature of 68 F° allows maintaining the feeling of comfort at home. During the night, the ideal is 60F°. Each degree that increases the temperature increases the consumption by 7 or 8%.
- The microwave spends 60% less energy than the conventional oven, so we should try to use it more often.
- Install thermostats and programmers. Installing valves to control the temperature or program the heating in certain time zones can reduce the consumption between 10% and 12%.
- Wash with cold water. 80% of the energy consumption of a washing machine is used to heat the water.
- If we have to buy or change any appliance, buy those that are more efficient, look at the label.
- The appliance that should be more efficient is the refrigerator because it runs all the time and consumption is very high.
- Fit doors and windows well. Improve the insulation of the house by having doors and windows that close tightly.
