When you think of cleaning your kitchen and stove, an often forgotten appliance is your stove hood! The hood and extractor fans may seem like a tricky item to clean but it is important to ensure you do because it probably had built up with fat and grease from all those previous uses as it remains atop your stove. Follow these simple step-by-step guide on how to efficiently clean the stove hood, extractor and filter.
First you must completely remove the filter from your hood. Check the manual instructions on the specific way to taking it off, if you do not have the manual anymore, check online and you should find the instructions there with a little research. Depending on the type of extracto you have then you will find it had a paper filter that you can remove and replace with another paper filter, these can be found at your local supermarket. Another type of filter is a carbon filter, these need replacing not cleaning. If you have fan extractor, then go ahead a remove the mes filter, this is non-disposable so you must give it a good clean.
Cleaning the metal filter
Once you have removed the metal filter from the extractor, go ahead and soak it in hot boiling water, you can use a baking sheet to place it and let it soak with a cup of vinegar and soap in order to cut through the grease. Leave it for as long as it is possible, most preferably overnight. After go ahead and give it a quick rub and wipe down to remove and residue grease on it.
Cleaning the hood surface
If you haven’t cleaned your hood for a while, the build-up of grease and fat from cooking can be very sticky and tricky to completely remove. Most extractors nowadays are made from stainless stead, go ahead and use a clean, soft sponge or cloth to clean these surfaces – a wire sponge or brush may leave scratches or other marks. Wipe over the entire exterior with soapy water or a cleaning product appropriate for the material.
