A dryer’s filter blocked by lint can significantly increase drying time. This lint filter is fitted in the dryer’s door opening. The appliance’s control panel has a “Check Lint Screen” or “Check Lint” light that reminds you to clean the filter before each wash load. This light turns off once you close the door or the wash cycle starts.
Common Issues That Can Crop Up Due to Poor Maintenance
Do not run your dryer if the lint filterloose, missing, blocked, or damaged. Doing so can result in overheating, which can damage your clothes as well as the dryer. If you notice lint falling off the filter into your dryer during removal, immediately check the exhaust hood of the appliance and remove all the lint.
Steps for Lint Filter Cleaning
Cleaning the lint filter is a crucial aspect of dyer maintenance, and these are the steps you need to follow in the process:
- Pull the lint filter straight up.
- Press its tab down and then open the lint filter
- Roll the lint off the filter with your fingers.
- Do not wash/rinse the filter to remove lint. Wet lint can be very tough to remove.
- Close the lint filter and push it firmly back into place.
As Required Cleaning:
Fabric softener and laundry detergent residues can buildup on the lint filter and can result in lengthier drying times for the clothes. Sometimes, the dryer might also stop before the load is entirely dry. If you notice the lint falling off when the screen is in the dryer, likely the filter is clogged.
It’s crucial to clean the lint filter every six months using a nylon brush or even more frequently if need be, and you notice the residue buildup. The frequency of dryer maintenance can vary depending on the amount of use the appliance sees and the types of clothes you are washing as well.
