Falafel
Falafel is one of the most popular, original and authentic Arab recipes in the Middle East. Depending on the place, the falafel can be made in the shape of croquette, small hamburger or ball which is fried with olive oil and is made mainly with chickpeas. This falafel recipe is delicious and easy to make. You can serve it as a starter to dip in a yogurt sauce, or as a sandwich on hot pita bread.
Ingredients:
- Canned or homemade chickpeas
- 1 roll of fresh parsley
- 2/3 chopped onion
- 1/2 roll of fresh coriander
- 2 cloves of garlic chopped
- 2 teaspoons ground cumin
- 1 cup breadcrumbs or flour if you do not have bread crumbs
- 1 tablespoon of baking soda
- 1 teaspoon salt and 1 pinch of black pepper
- Frying oil
How to prepare falafel:
Grind the chickpeas directly with the immersion blender together with the onions, garlic, parsley, fresh cilantro and a cup of water (or the juice of the chickpeas).
Mix until you get a thick texture.
Add salt, ground cumin, black pepper, baking soda and mix a little. Let the mixture stand for 30 minutes.
Make small balls and smash them a little bit, or give the shape of a mini-hamburger.
Fry in enough olive oil until golden brown (6 minutes).
Serve hot.
