How to Identify Common Dishwasher Problems
If you are having problems with your dishwasher, it may not be as difficult to fix as you think. Avoid hand-washing by using this helpful guide to identify some common problems and determine the best method for fixing them.
Common Dishwasher Problems & Repairs
Symptom: A leaking dishwasher could indicate a wide variety of problems.
Overloaded
Never overload your dishwasher. This can cause the machine to leak and cause undue stress on its components. Try smaller loads, but if the problem persists, the cause may be something else.
Broken Door Seals
When the seal around the dishwasher door becomes old, it is not uncommon for cracks or holes to appear. This can let water escape during a wash cycle. This can be repaired by replacing the seal.
Too Much Soap
Adding too much soap to a dishwasher can cause it to leak. If you see soap residue inside the machine, this may indicate that you are adding too much detergent.
Poor Connections
Sometimes the pipe connections on a machine loosen over time or have a bad seal. This can cause water to leak out when the machine is operating.
Symptom: Dishes are dry and dirty after a wash cycle.
Closed Hot Water Valve
Verify if your hot water valve is properly open. If it is closed, this is preventing your machine from filling up with water during a wash cycle.
Obstructed Inlet Valve
Inlet valves always need to be unobstructed and cleaned of debris. If it is blocked, this is the likely cause of your issue.
Symptom: Pooling water at the bottom of your dishwasher.
This is probably the result of a blocked drain pipe. Check to see if the drain is covered by debris or other materials in order to allow water to drain during a wash cycle.
