The process of washing clothes can be difficult for some, but there are detergents and softeners that are specific for certain fabric types but will help take care of the clothes properly. Although they can cost more, they are worth the long-term investment.
Here are some helpful tips for caring for your clothes:
Delicates
Wool or fine cotton clothes can be put in a zippered pillowcase and washed with cold water using the delicate wash cycle. Or you can use a mesh bag like the ones sold in the supermarket.
Towels
If the towels have a damp smell, wash them normally using hot water and detergent. While they’re in the washing machine, add a cup of vinegar.
Jeans
To prevent jeans from losing color, wash them with cold water using a detergent for all types of clothing.
Shirts
Make sure to unbutton the shirts. If you do not do this, the movement of the washing machine could cause them to come loose or fall off.
Underwear
You can get rid of ugly, yellowish sweat stains by rubbing them with warm water and a mild soap, then soak them for 30 minutes before putting in the washing machine.
Baby Clothes
Some detergents can be very strong for the sensitive skin of babies. Therefore, wash baby clothes with a mild soap without chemicals, in a separate load.
Chlorine
Only use chlorine in white clothes and not in color. If your washer does not have a bleach dispenser, be sure to dilute the bleach with water before putting it on your clothes.
