Having trouble placing dishes in the dishwasher?
A dishwasher is an indispensable part of modern kitchens, but if it’s the first time that you have one, maybe you have not been able to figure out how to put the dishes in the dishwasher most efficiently, or something has jammed it.
Using the dishwasher is very easy, but placing the dishes and utensils so that washing is as effective as possible requires a few tricks. Below, we present some tips to correctly place dishes, glasses, cutlery and other kitchen utensils with maximum efficiency.
First, let’s remember what you should not wash in the dishwasher.
- Sharp knives
- Wooden utensils
- Ceramic tableware
- Fine china or glassware
- Silver items
Plates:
Plates should always be placed in the slots in the bottom of the dishwasher. The small ones in the narrowest slits, while the deep ones and larger ones in where they are separated the most. You must place them with the face always inwards.
Glasses:
The cups and bowls should always be placed on the top with the face down. In the case of cups, it is important that they are immobilized to prevent them from being damaged.
Pots and Pans:
Cookware that is not non-stick may be washed in the dishwasher but should be placed in the bottom. The pans should be rinsed off first especially if they have any grease or oil in them.
Cutlery:
Place the cutlery in the baskets with the handle facing up. You must place them separately so that the washing is more effective. Put the small cutlery in the smaller baskets and the knives and forks in the big one.
Plastic Containers:
Tupperware should also be placed on top of the appliance with the opening facing down. This will prevent deforming and eliminating fat remnants correctly. All plastic containers should be placed in this position. In addition, dishwashers get hotter at the bottom and this can harm them.
Trays and Boards:
The large trays place them at the bottom between the slits and separated. Check that they do not touch the upper fan that activates during washing. Cutting boards that are not made of wood can also be placed at the bottom of the dishwasher.
