Trash Compactor Basics
A trash compactor is a device that is used to reduce waste and reduce your trips to the curb. It can compress six bags of garbage into one! Learn more about the benefits of a trash compactor with this helpful guide.
How Does It Work?
Simply, open the door of a trash compactor and place the garbage inside like a normal trash can. Then just hit the button and the garbage will be compressed. This will crush all the solids into a tight package. Once the trash compactor bag is full, just drop it off at the curb with the rest of the garbage.
It will only take about 45 seconds.
How Should It Be Loaded?
It is better to place bottles and cans at the bottom of the bin. Bigger pieces of garbage should be placed in the middle. It is not recommended to fill the compactor more than 50% full before it is compressed. This could cause damage to the machine or even cause injury.
What Can Be Compressed?
- Any cans, cardboard, or plastic waste can be put in the compactor.
- Glass and chemical waste should be avoided.
- Food waste should be composted or placed through a garbage disposal unit.
Safety Tips for Trash Compactors
- Keep the compactor in a safe place and use the lock if there are children around.
- Do not push garbage into the compactor with any part of your body.
- Do not overload the compactor as this could cause it to jam or break down.
- Do not touch any moving parts.
- Do not operate a broken machine.
- Make sure to always use the appropriate outlet.
