What Does “Semi-Automatic” Mean?
A semiautomatic machine requires human control to supervise the process of adding and draining water.
To start a load of clothes, the first step is to add clothes and detergent. Then, using a hose, add a sufficient amount of water to the desired temperature to fill the wash tub. The agitator, in the center of the washing tub, rotates about 3/4 of the way around and then does the same in the opposite direction. This movement drags the clothes down into the water, which then work their way back until they get pulled down by the agitator.
Once the wash cycle is over, it is necessary to manually drain the water from the wash tub. The next step is to add clean water for the rinse, to the correct level of water as specified for your washing machine.
Centrifugation
The spin-dry cycle of a semi-automatic washing machine uses centrifugal force to squeeze out excess water from the clothes.
