Drain pipes in a fridge need to be cleaned
If you have ever opened the refrigerator and seen a puddle of sticky liquid or water on the bottom, there is a good chance that the drain pipe of the refrigerator needs a good cleaning. The discharge tube in a condensation cooler allows liquids to drain out of the box and into the drain pan below. If the tube is blocked, the liquid does not drain. Even if the drain is not blocked, it is a good idea to clean the drain hose periodically to prevent it from becoming clogged.
Things you will need
- Towel
- Plastic pipes
- Container

- Turn off the power for the refrigerator.
- Open the refrigerator door.
- Remove any objects that may be on the bottom shelf or in the drawers.
- The drain hose opening is about half an inch in diameter and is located in the lower part of the refrigerator cabinet.
- Wipe away any food residue or debris on the bottom of the box with a damp cloth to help locate the opening, if necessary.
- insert a piece of flexible tube into the opening of the drain pipe.
- Continue gently pressing the tube forward until you feel it coming out of the end of the drain opening.
